Alfred Marion Parsell (known by all as Gran or Gran Gran), 92, of Lynchburg passed away peacefully on September 17, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He is now reunited with the love of his life, June M. Parsell. He was the son of Earnest & Vera Parsell.

Alfred is survived by his daughter Carolyn Mahone; four grandchildren, Sherry Sale and her husband Alan, Stacey Craft and her husband Kendall, Patrick Mahone and his wife Melissa, and Tonya Corriveau and her husband Joe; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Maynard Parsell and his sister Earnestine Patterson. He was preceded in death by his brother Melvin.
Alfred loved the beach and spending time with his family. Each night, even up to the night before he left to join his wife in heaven, you would find a family member enjoying dinner with him and afterwards challenging them to a game of checkers which he always seemed to win. He would always tell everyone, "what a great family he had."

Alfred was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and was the former owner of M&M Cleaners. He honorably served in the United States Marines during World War II in the Pacific.

The family would like to thank Dr. Saher Sabre at UVA and Dr. Kevin Patel at Alan B Pearson Cancer Center for the care and respect shown to their loved one.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Alan B Pearson Cancer Center, 1701 Thompson Drive, Lynchburg VA 24501.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm - 8 pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, September 22, 2017 at Virginia Memorial Park with Patrick Mahone officiating.
