Alfredo "Freddy" Bolando Rodriguez returned to his heavenly home at the age of 67 on November 29, 2017 after a long battle with illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Frances Rodriguez; In-laws, Jose T. and Delia Garza, and brother-in-law, Jimmy Garza.

Freddy is survived by his High school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Joyce Garza Rodriguez; his children, Frances Revilla (Hector), Enrique Rodriguez (Lourdes); grandchildren, Alfredo, Angelica, and Alejandro Rodriguez; brothers, Danny, Johnny (Sylvia) and Eddie Rodriguez, Ernest Padilla; sister-in-law, Jeannette Garza; brother-in-law, Jesse (Yolanda) Garza from Houston, TX.

A special thanks to Freddy's cousin who was like a brother and was always there, Oscar Rodriguez (Irene), Nurses on Wheels Home Health/Hospice, and Fire Station #6 for all the help through the years.

Growing up Freddy was involved with the Boys Club and played with the Baseball Teenage League. He enjoyed playing football and baseball for the Roy Miller "BUCS"; he was also an All-District Catcher, All-District Center, Member of the 1968 Football State Playoff Team and Member of 1969 Baseball State Playoff Team and 1969 proud graduate of Roy Miller High School.

In 1975 he attended Professional Umpire School in Daytona Beach, Florida and umpired many local and surrounding Little Leagues, High School and College games for over 30 years. Freddy helped coach the 1976 Connie Mack World Series team in Farmington, New Mexico and assisted coaching baseball at St. John Paul High School. In 2004 Freddy was inducted to the South Texas Umpire Hall of Fame in Monterrey, N. L. Mexico and became a member of Roy Miller High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.

He retired from Citgo Refinery after 28 years of service and was a Firefighter for Refinery Terminal Fire Company for 15 years.

Freddy was a parishioner of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and Mary Mother of San Juan Catholic Church.

Pallbearers: Ricky Rodriguez, Alfredo Rodriguez, Raul Benavides, Steve Castillo, Oscar Rodriguez and Isaias De La Rosa.

Honorary pallbearer is Alejandro Rodriguez.

Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church on Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
