Alice Mae (Benson) Lodtz, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Bickford Senior Living with loved ones at her side. Alice was born January 27, 1924 to the late Bernhard and Hildur (Jacobson) Benson of Crystal Lake. In March of 1963 she married the love of her life, the late Norman Lodtz, at the Congregational Church in Crystal Lake and shared 49 wonderful years with him until his passing in 2012.
Born and raised in Crystal Lake, Alice attended local schools and graduated from CL Community High School with the class of '42. In 1971, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a licensed cosmetologist, practicing hairdressing for friends and neighbors in the shop in her home. Alice took pride in her homes, her Swedish heritage, and her three Schnauzer dogs. Throughout her adult years, she enjoyed summer entertaining at their Crystal Lake home, fishing trips to their favorite lodge in MN, bowling on the CL Women's City League, and wintering at their home in FL. Alice possessed a kind and generous heart, always appreciated a good dance partner, treasured any time spent with family or friends, and savored an evening vodka martini with a twist.
Alice is survived by dear friends and devoted nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Maurice "Bing" and Harold Benson and her twin sister, Ruth (Victor) Gieseke.
Interment will be private.
Her family would appreciate any memorials in her name be directed to the Salvation Army at 290 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014 or Fox Valley Helping Paws Animal Shelter at 2500 Harding Lane, Woodstock, IL 60098.
Arrangements were entrusted to Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.querhammerandflagg.com.
