ARKVILLE-
Allen I. Maxim, 72 of Church St. died Saturday August 31, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was a native, and life long Catskill Mountain resident. Allen was born October 26, 1940 in Fleischmanns son of the late Hiram and Chloe Vermilyea Maxim. He was a veteran of the US Army having served from 1961 to 1963. He logged with his brothers, and early on had logged with his brother-in-law Ray using horses . They could go places, that machines couldn't. He also had been ski patrol at Highmount Ski Center, and later lift operator and maintenance crew at both Belleayre and Windham Mountains. His last employment was as a driver of over-sized loads for Banner Homes on Rt. 28 Woodstock. Allen had a great appreciation for the great outdoors, and a respect for nature. He enjoyed whittling, picnics, camping, hunting, fishing, horse shoes, bowling, and most of all the solitude of his varied walks. He was a past chief, and many year member of the Arkville Fire Department. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Mountainside Care for all of the compassionate care that was extended to Allen.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years Kathleen Green Maxim, a son Timothy of Andes, 3 daughters: Tammy, Terry, and Tanya all of Arkville, a sister Patricia Kratochvil of Roxbury, and a brother Wayne Maxim. 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by his siblings: Chloe Pebler, Burton, Robert, and Raymond Maxim.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Allen will take place privately. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Arkville Fire Dept. You may share a condolence or light a candle at Allen's memorial page at www.gormleyfuneralhome.com
