AlmaLee Jeanette Mitchell, the daughter of Jessie (Juday) and Herbert Ferguson, was born January 28, 1922 at Wenatchee, Washington. She departed this life on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the Harvard Rest Haven in Harvard, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 14 days. AlmaLee grew up on the Wenatchee community where she received her formal education attending school. She was united in marriage with Harold Eugene Mitchell on April 22, 1939. They moved to Nebraska in 1943 to farm. Making their home in the Red Cloud community, AlmaLee was employed for over thirty-five years with the Maynard Hospital and the Webster County Community Hospital until her retirement. She was active within the community as a member of the Congregational Church and enjoyed the activities at the Elm Street Center. AlmaLee and Harold were passionate card players, enjoying card clubs or simply a game between them at home. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, canning, needlepoint and crocheting. A constant companion for AlmaLee and Harold late in life was their dog, Missy. They took great joy in getting out to exercise and staying active by walking their dog faithfully every day. They moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Hastings and then later to the Harvard Rest Haven where her husband preceded her in death a month earlier on February 10, 2014. Also preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters, Dorothy, Eileen, Lucille and Genevieve; and three brothers, Eldene, Kenneth and Richard. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Marilyn Vandersloot of Hardin, Montana; Carolyn "Corky" Luth of Hastings, Nebraska and Leland "Dusty" Mitchell and wife Vivian of Hastings; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Virgil Ferguson of Wenatchee, Washington; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., March 17, 2014 at the Congregational Bible Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Marshall Faulkenberry officiating. Interment will be at the Red Cloud Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral homes, and Monday, 8:00 a.m. to service time at the church.
