Alta Addie James Simpson, September 8, 1914 – March 13, 2012
Alta Addie James Simpson, 97, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and cherished friend passed away peacefully on March 13, 2012. She was tended in her final days by her loving daughters and wonderful caregivers. Alta was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Henry Paul Simpson, her parents, Albert Oscar James and Nancy Louisa Wainwright James, brothers, Clifford James and Shelby James, sisters Carrie Mahaney, Delpha Sellers and Bonnie Thompson and granddaughter, Judy Lynn Hall.
Born September 8, 1914, in Park Hill, Oklahoma she spent her growing up years in the Tahlequah, Oklahoma area where she met the love of her life, Henry Paul Simpson. They were married May 23, 1933, in the First Methodist Church parsonage. Throughout their lives together they lived in Tahlequah, Bethany and Edmond, Oklahoma, Clovis, Lordsburg, Tucumcari, Mosquero, Hobbs and Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Mesquite, Texas in November, 1984.
In the early years, Alta and Paul farmed in northeastern Oklahoma. Later as a stay at home mom she loved to cook, bake, sew and do needlework. She was an active Sunday school teacher, loved to play the piano for the singing in church as well as her own enjoyment and made many dresses for herself and her three daughters. In supporting her husband to return to college, she became a beautician and worked at that for over 30 years before retiring. With more time on her hands after retirement, Alta started back with her sewing and needlework, started bowling in up to three leagues a week, where she earned many ribbons and trophies. She also helped care for her younger grandchildren before and after school. Alta was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mesquite and later New World United Methodist Church, Garland. Her church families were so very special to her and she loved to gets phone calls and visits from her friends.
Alta is survived by three daughters, Maxine Simpson Hall-Ewig of Temecula, CA and her husband Jerry Ewig, Pauline Simpson Lamb of Mesquite, TX and her husband Johnny Lamb and Carolyn Simpson Lane of Prescott Valley, AZ. Alta's five surviving grand children are Sherry Hall-Motley, Pam Renwick Hall Williams, Alicia Lane, James Lamb and Daniel Lamb; six great-grand children, Heather Renwick Laurence, Carla Renwick Pearson, Anney Hall, Caralyne Lane, Aubrey Carter and Vaughn Carter; four great-great-grand children Lexi Pottsburg, Desiree Renwick, Bella Pottsburg and Addie Laurence; thirty seven nieces and nephews and scores of friends.
Alta's family would like to express their heart felt gratitude to the staff of Fowler Christian Apartments and Pearl Nordan both at Juliette Fowler Homes who gave her such loving care the over the last five years and to the staff and volunteers at Faith Presbyterian Hospice who so graciously gave their time and care to Alta in her last weeks.
A celebration of Alta's life will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2:00pm at New World United Methodist Church, 5134 Northwest Hwy, Garland, TX 75043. Visitation will be Friday, March 16, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite, TX 75149. Internment will be on Monday, March 19, 2012 at City of Tahlequah Cemetery, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
