Alva June was born in Flint, Michigan on February 19,1922. Her lifelong walk of faith began In her teen years when she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at a tent revival. At the age of 17, Alva June moved to California where she met and married Ralph Julius Schmidt on February 28, 1942. In 1957, she and her husband moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where they raised their three children. In 1965, at the age of 43, Alva June became a Registered Nurse through Saint Joseph Hospital Nursing School. She always said that nursing was a way she could serve her Lord. She often said that nursing was a spiritual calling of service on her life by God to serve Him and others.

It is the simple things in life that our beloved mother never took for granted, commenting daily how fortunate and thankful she was. Above all, Mom was absolutely devoted to her husband and to her children. She was a mother who lovingly and prayerfully devoted herself to the details of the lives of her family, and extended that care and influence to many friends and acquaintances that were privileged to know her. She was a strong woman of faith, full of wisdom, and a non-wavering belief in the power of prayer and in the strength of Jesus Christ’s love and saving grace. As we recall all of the sweet memories of our Mother, none will be more precious than the thought of her lovely face and smile, so full of grace to all of us and to everyone she knew.
