Alveretta Theresa Frilot Ledet was born at home on September 5, 1927 in the community of Frilot Cove, Louisiana to Clifford Frilot, Sr. and Inez Guidry Frilot. She was the oldest of six children born to this union. God called his angel home on Saturday, January 20, 2018.

Alveretta, affectionately known to many as "Retta", received her grade school education in a one-room schoolhouse in Frilot Cove and later graduated from Holy Ghost High School in Opelousas. In order to attend high school, she lived with her maternal grandparents during the week and worked at Mason Caf to help support her family. Upon graduation, she taught one year at the school in Frilot Cove. Alveretta's life was an active life - dedicated to helping others. After her mother's death in 1945, she helped her father raise her five younger siblings.

Alveretta married Curtis Ledet on November 18, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Plaisance, LA. The next day, they drove to Houston, TX to begin their life together. To this loving union, five children were born: Sheliah, Michael, Carey, Sharon, and Carmela. Prior to the birth of her children, Alveretta worked at Lester's Grocery Store for one year. Then she became a devoted stay-at-home wife, mother, and grandmother for the rest of her life. She was a faithful member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. Being a woman of faith, she prayed the rosary several times a day. She was an excellent cook. Her family and friends always looked forward to eating her delicious rice dressing and pecan cake. She enjoyed visiting and talking with family and friends, watching her favorite basketball team, the Houston Rockets on television, and reading the newspaper. Alveretta was a very caring, humble, joyful, loving, spiritual, and strong woman. All of her life, she placed her trust in God and was grateful for His many blessings. She always praised the Lord with: "God Is Great"!!

Mourning her departure, but cherishing her memory is her loving husband of 67 years, Curtis Ledet; five children: Sheliah Auzenne (Alvin), Michael Ledet (June), Carey Ledet (Yvonne), Sharon Sylvie (Perry), and Carmela Ledet; eight grandchildren: Techer Washington, Raina Balthazar (Vergil), Rachael Williams (Arion), Jeremy Ledet (Karon), Heather Blount (Andr), Desiree Agapito (Efrain), Erin Sylvie (Clay), and Jerrien Johnson; nine great grandchildren: Kaleb Blount, Gervon Williams, Jaidyn Lacy, Kailyn Ledet, Michael Ledet, Leighton Malonson, Presley Malonson, Zayden Williams, and Aaron Agapito; two sisters-in-law: Daisy Frilot and Rosena Perkins; special lifelong friends: Elizabeth and Paul Williams; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Alveretta was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Frilot, Sr. and Inez Guidry Frilot; two brothers, Clifford Frilot, Jr. and Alphonse Frilot; three sisters, Albertha Elliott, Lois Lemelle, and Veronica Lachapelle; and great granddaughter, Zana Washington.
