Anita Florence Empleton

On June 13, 2016, loving wife of the late Bernard E. Empleton; devoted mother to Ronald, Valerie and the late Diane; cherished grandmother to seven; and adored great-grandmother to 15. She was one who loved life, and who also came to know and love the Lord, very much. Her life was one of service to her community, volunteering with the local Women’s Board and the Montgomery General Hospital Thrift Shop, but especially was her devotion to husband, Bernard. She married young (21) and was only 60 when he died of ALS (1980). He had just retired from a very successful and deeply committed career with the YMCA. She had already experienced the tragedy of losing a child (Diane died when almost 7 in 1957) and though mom didn’t have an advanced degree from a University, she had something else, her life was a cheerful gift of love to her family, and acceptance of “her portion and her cup” from above–both the tragedy and the triumph. Her life began before the Great Depression and World War II—she has seen a lot! Presently, her seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, are a large part of her legacy—for they greatly love and admire her—and Valerie--and her family, have been an integral and essential component to mom’s happiness and joy through many visits and innumerable letters and cards and prayers and phone calls over many years; and, when all is said and done, mom’s faith, her hope, her love stands strong. She leaves a profound gift to her children, an example of a life well-lived.

One favorite song of hers is: “My Tribute (to God be the glory for the things He has done)”.
