Mercifully, God called Anita Vaccaro Pfleiderer early on Friday, November 24 to be by his side. All who knew Anita will always remember that she spent her life growing every gift and talent that God bestowed upon her to its fullest potential. She leaves behind her constant companion, and husband of 52 years, John Noel Pfleiderer; her three grateful children, Larry, Ann, and Elaine; and the light of her life, her six grandchildren, Micheal, Danny, Adam, Kristin, Joseph, and John. Her immediate family, her extended family, and her friends, will feel her absence everyday.

Anita was a child of Brooklyn, which she affectionately called "The Garden of Eden" explaining that it was the origin of everything good in the world. She graduated from Midwood High School in 1953, where she explored her artistic talents. She often recalled the murals she and her high school friends created. These friends remained in contact with her throughout her life. Anita won a scholarship to the Brooklyn Museum Art School where she studied drawing and painting, sketching the human form, and working with oil on canvas. Additionally, Anita enjoyed working weekends at the Art Museum as a demonstrator on the pottery kick wheel. During her twenties, Anita taught 5th and 6th grade at St. Francis De Chantel parochial school in Brooklyn.

On May 29th, 1965 she married her lifelong friend, John Noel Pfleiderer. She raised her three beloved children in Farmingdale, Long Island, surrounded by supportive and loving neighbors and friends. During these years she worked as a paraprofessional at Beach Channel High School and was a valued member of the school community.

Upon her retirement she relocated to Otego, New York where she was a vibrant community member. She served on the Boards of Habitat for Humanity, The Upper Catskill Council for the Arts, and The Otego Library. She also shared her time and talents with The Fiber Arts Guild.

Anita's wake will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 29th at Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta.

Due to the closure of Saint Mary's Catholic Church for renovations the Funeral Mass will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church, 305 Main Street Oneonta, on Thursday, November 30th at 10:00 am with Rev. David Mickiewicz officiating. Burial will be in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery.
