Anna Belle McClung Yates, 90, of Staunton, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Kings Daughters Community Health & Rehab. She was born in Greenbrier County, West Virginia on August 19, 1925, a daughter of the late Jacob Ralph McClung and Ida Pearl.
Anna Belle was a graduate of the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University. She was a member of the sorority, Phi Kappa Zeta. Anna Belle worked for over 30 years as the librarian at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind. She greatly enjoyed reading, traveling, and dancing. Anna Belle had a great passion for her home state, "montani semper liberi" and she loved animals. She also took great pride in being a mother, taking care of and loving her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred P. Yates, Jr. Survivors include her son, Ralph A. Yates and wife, Pam of Warner Robins, Georgia; two daughters, Jo Belle Anthony and husband, David H. and April Y. Keegan and husband Ty all of Staunton; eight grandchildren, Fred P. Yates III, Michanne Yates, Mathew Altmeyer, and Erin Newton all of Georgia, Jessica Baake and husband Paul of Chester, Joshua Anthony and wife, Molly of Charlottesville, Lyndsey Keegan of Staunton, and Kelsey Sprouse and husband, Josh of Fulks Run; three great grandchildren; a sister, Lula Dickey of Independence, Missouri.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m.,Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor John Eicker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Anna Belle's memory to the Virginia School of the Deaf Alumni Association, Staunton, and/or your local SPCA.
