Anna Marie Shea passed from this earth, joining her family, on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at the age of 99, ending the Shea family's contribution to the "Greatest Generation."

Anna grew up in East Hartford, graduating from East Hartford High School in 1933.She worked for the Hartford Times and Plazikowski's Furriers in Hartford. Always one for a change and challenge, she then changed her career and went to work at Hartford Federal Savings and Loan on State Street in Hartford. There, her skills were recognized and she was promoted to be the assistant to the Executive Vice President. Anna was a member of the professional women's organization WEOCONN and, because of her leadership abilities, she was elected Chair. Later Anna worked for the Superior Court in Hartford, retiring in 1976. Typical of Anna's zest for living life to the fullest, retirement opened up a new chapter and she and two of her sisters began to travel and took many wonderful vacations.

Anna possessed a great depth of spirit and exemplary competence in so many areas of life. As the youngest of 12 children, Anna took her place in the family with pride and greatly contributed to the success of the Shea family. Anna had an innate creative talent that was most on display at home. She loved colors and had an eye for putting colors, fabrics and styles together. She was a skilled seamstress and was adept at knitting and crocheting, creating many wonderful items, from Halloween costumes to afghans, for appreciative friends and family. She loved music and with her family made music part of every family gathering.

Anna was a life-long communicant of St. Mary's Church in East Hartford and was known for making and decorating the beautiful dollhouses that were the highlight of the parish fairs. She was also an avid supporter of the Toys for Tots program.

Over the last years of her life Anna was able to remain in her home because of the dedicated care provided by her "special friends": Zeta, Carol and other caring staff working for Comfort Keepers. Anna is survived by a loving family, including her nieces and nephews Rose Tyaack of Middletown, Eileen Roberts of Newington, Robert Shea of Maine, James Sheridan and Bernard Sheridan of East Hartford, Margaret Stewart of Portland, and Mary Lotze of MA She was predeceased by her parents, Dennis and Rose (Rosasco) Shea, and her eleven siblings: Charlie, Mary, Lillian, John, Fred, Edward, William, Peter, Frank, Teresa Sheridan, and Madeline. The family is grateful to all the Sheas, that they were such exemplary role models and willing to share all they had.

Memorial contributions in Anna's memory may be made to St. Mary's Church, 1584 Main St., East Hartford, CT 06108.

Services and burial are private. Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford has been entrusted with her arrangements.
