Archie Adams was born in Mead, Nebraska in April 1921. He grew up on a family farm and worked with his mom and dad to grow crops and care for livestock. He loved to play sports, especially baseball, and played trumpet in the high school band. He graduated from Mead High School and then the Lincoln School of Commerce. He joined the Nebraska National Guard in 1940. Once World War II started, his Guard unit was nationalized into the 2nd Army. In 1943, he and others were transferred into the newly formed 8th Army. Archie participated in amphibious landings in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. During action in the Philippine campaign, he was awarded a Bronze Star for valor. In September 1946, Archie married Betty Christensen and started a new life together. After working at the Veterans Administration for a few years, Archie used his GI Bill benefits and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Nebraska. He was a chemist with Phillips Petroleum Company in the Texas panhandle city of Borger, Texas. He retired from Phillips Petroleum after 34 years of service.

Archie and Betty added Russell and David to the family in the 1950’s. In the 1960’s, Archie was asked to teach chemistry at night school at Frank Phillips Junior College. He added that to his schedule for 13 years. As his boys grew, Archie and Betty were very involved with their lives. He supported his boys in their schoolwork, band activities, and showed them how to live lives that matter, serve others, and honor God.

As a young boy, Archie accepted Christ as his Savior. His faith was the foundation of his life. In Borger, Archie and his family were members of Faith Covenant Church for over 30 years. He served as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and church Elder. He provided wise counsel to family and others throughout his life. He also found other ways to serve. He was an active member and officer of the Borger Noon Lions Club for many years.

Archie never lost his love for baseball. He played it, taught it to his boys and others in the neighborhood, cheered for high school and college teams, and always watched the Texas Rangers.

Archie is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty, and two sons, Russell Adams and wife Janet of Keller and David Adams and wife Becky of Coppell. He also has 3 grandchildren, Michael and wife Jenny, Sharon and husband Mike, and Daniel. He has 4 great grandchildren Rhyan, Rhett, Beckett and Auden. With God’s grace and in His timing, we will all be reunited again. Praise to God!

A Memorial Service for Archie Adams will be held at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village on Thursday, November 16.
