Armand Giroux, 77, died on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Fairview Nursing Home, Groton, after having survived many serious illnesses. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lisbeth and a daughter, Michelle of Montreal, Canada as well as two granddaughters, Alexie and Chloe and son-in-law Francois Bouchard. He is also survived by a brother, Leonard, two sisters, Pauline and Genevieve of Vermont and Albany, New York and several nieces and nephews. Armand was born on a farm in St. Albans, Vermont on April 5, 1940. He moved to CT as a teenager and graduated from Middletown High School. He was the youngest of six children and was predeceased by a sister, Madeleine and a brother Phil. Armand was a Navy veteran and will be buried with military honors. He capitalized on his military benefits to achieve a Masters degree in Business, all earned evenings. He undertook an avocation through teaching as a college Adjunct Professor in 1981, while pursuing a full time 30 year business career at Electric Boat, Groton, CT where he was a Charter member of the EB Management Club. He worked as a Senior Contract Administrator and Manager of Purchasing for Advanced Programs, retiring in 1995. A six year post career then followed at the Southeastern CT Enterprise region where Mr. Giroux served as a consultant to small businesses throughout Connecticut. In parallel with his business career, Me. Giroux continued to teach senior level courses at several academic institutions and his alma mater schools, The University of New Haven and Mitchell College. He also served on faculty staff at Three Rivers Community College and Central CT State University in the US/China Program. He was a respected teacher who enjoyed continued contact from former students, whose careers he enjoyed tracking. He was once voted "Adjunct Faculty of the Year." He considered his teaching to be his major career contribution. Mr. Giroux also was a Certified Toastmaster and member of B.P.O.E. - New London. Fulton-Theroux is in charge of funeral arrangements. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Matthias Church at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 where friends will be received. Burial will be a private ceremony.
