Arthur Branan, Jr. died in Williamsburg, VA, on November 15, 2017 at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his parents, Lillian Nutting Branan and Arthur Branan; a brother, William Branan, and a sister, Lillian Branan Jeltrup. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou Knight; a daughter, Linda Branan Riggs (Dr. Gary A.); a son, Gregory Knight Branan (Susan); and four beloved grandchildren.

Mr. Branan, a bomber pilot, was a P.O.W. shot down over Romania in W.W. II. After the war, he graduated from Emory University, as an Entomologist, serving in this capacity at the Norfolk Naval Station for over 20 years.

A resident of Portsmouth, VA for 46 years, he was very active in his community. A longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry and was a lay reader. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Portsmouth Craney Island Commission, the Portsmouth Assembly, and a volunteer for many years with Meals on Wheels, the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, and as a substitute teacher in the Portsmouth public school system.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
