Auther James Haggerty aka Sam, the elder of 16 children, was born May 13, 1939 in Mooringsport, Louisiana. Sam was raised by his loving parents Henry Haggerty and Clarice Hardy. As a child and teenager, he was very industrious and determined. Sam started out early on a career path securing employment in construction. He moved to Dallas, Texas in 1961 and continued in the construction field working on projects such as the Reunion Arena and the Texas Motor Speedway. Sam was a father and Daddy to six children. An incredible personality and a winsome smile endeared Sam to many. He was fun-loving and faithful to those he allowed to surround him. Sam lived, laughed and loved for seventy-eight years. From the time he was born until the time the Lord called him home, he held firm to the promises of God. He translated from the earthly care to heavenly rest January 12, 2018 as a result of complications from Prostate Cancer. We might not have been prepared for his passing, but a sovereign God called him home. He plucked from our midst a sweet and wonderful person, Sam, and received him at his new home in Glory. He was a member of Beckley Heights COC under the leadership of Minister Richard W. Stevens III. Sam was preceded in death by parents: Henry and Clarice Haggerty, son: Arthur J. Haggerty aka Tim, sister: Ole Mae Haggerty, brothers: Henry Haggerty Jr., Clarence Haggerty, Willie C Haggerty, Earl Haggerty, W.C. Lee, Enell Lee and Joe Lee. His memory will be cherished by his children: Debra, Lorena, Bruce, David and Sam. 15 grandchildren, siblings: Ada Fisher, Donetta Bryant, Willie B. Elbert, Diana Haggerty, Varice Jackson, Herise Moses, Annie Mae Means, Edward Haggerty, Marshals Wayne, Billy Ray Haggerty, and Ralph Lee. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Countless Friends and Extended Families.
