Our beloved Avelina Segovia Fernandez went to her eternal reward on November 21, 2017, at the age of 93 years. Born in Waco, Texas to Estanislado and Catalina Segovia, Avelina was raised in San Antonio and moved to Houston with her husband, Santos Jasso Fernandez, and their five children. Avelina shared her incredible gift of her Catholic faith with everyone she met. Her faith was her strength that sustained her throughout her life, and her countless prayers were always a source of strength and protection for her family. Throughout her life, Avelina volunteered with several religious orders including the Carmelite Sisters, on Deer Trail Road in Houston, Texas, where she volunteered for over 20 years. These associations brought her much joy, peace and comfort.

Avelina was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Santos Jasso Fernandez, and her siblings Ormisda Portillo, Leo Segovia, Israel Segovia, Belen Segovia, Manuel Segovia, and Fortunato Segovia.

Avelina will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Santos Jr. Fernandez, Arthur Fernandez, Consuelo Fernandez, Carolyn Fernandez Sherry (wife of Duane, son-in-law), and Susan Fernandez. And by her grandchildren Anita Landa, Joey Fernandez, Brian Sherry, Scott Sherry and her great grandchild Adrian Fernandez. She will also be lovingly missed by her sister Coleta Serda of McAllen, Texas.

Avelina touched many people's hearts and lives including many nephews, nieces, cousins, long-time friends, neighbors and her St. John Neumann Catholic Church community.
