Ayler Pauline Beale was born on August 24, 1960, at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Illinois.
When she and two of her siblings were bussed to Taft Elementary School on the west side of Joliet in 1966 (when busing and integrating schools became law), she was the first one to take the brave first step onto school grounds. She was only six years old, and her family was very proud of her courage. Ayler lived in Joliet until she was nine years old and then moved to Park Forest, where she lived until she was eighteen years old. As a young girl, she was a member of the 4-H club and enjoyed making crafts. She participated in the youth ministry at the church her family attended, and went on several camping trips with them. She was a member of her high school choir and loved making sculptures out of clay in art class.
Ayler received an Associate's Degree as a Medical Assistant from Midstate College in Peoria, where she graduated with honors and was on the Dean's list. She was listed in "Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges". After a brief stint in the medical field, she had a successful career in restaurant and hotel management. She served as Executive Club Director at the Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria.
Ayler loved movies, and the Godfather series were some of her favorites. She became a very good cook in her adult years. She enjoyed cooking for others and having family over for big meals. She enjoyed planting in her small garden. She was an enthusiastic Chicago sports fan, especially cheering for the Bears. She was mesmerized by the beauty of the ocean when she visited Sanibel Island, Florida, with her family. Ayler had a big heart for her friends and family, who deeply felt her love and gratitude. Her last Christmas card in December 2017 said: "I am so thankful I get to be a part of this amazing family". Ayler considered becoming a veterinarian at one time because of her love for animals. She had several pets during her life, most recently her beloved dogs Bentley and Norman.
Ayler is survived by her father, Arthur Beale Jr., brothers Dwight Beale (Jodi) and Arthur Beale III, sisters Patricia Austin (Thomas) and Renee Patterson (Jay), 1 nephew, and 6 nieces. She also is survived by her dear friend, Tony Sellers.
She was preceded by her mother, Jewel Beale, brother, Reggie Beale, and nephew Reggie Beale II.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 11:00am, at the Advocate BroMenn Medical Center Chapel, 1304 Franklin Avenue, Normal.
