Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Friend

Obituary

Barbara Elizabeth Motil, a homemaker, and a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died after a short illness on November 22. She was 93.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara was the daughter of Joseph Polovich and Barbara Seketa, and brother of Rudolph Polovich. She graduated from Collinwood High School at age 16 and then received a Bachelor's in Sociology from Western Reserve College. After marrying Frank Motil, they lived in Cleveland for a time before moving to Claridon, Ohio, to raise their growing family.
Barbara loved gardening and was an avid reader of everything from Agatha Christie to Louis L'Amour. She adored pets and people and traveled extensively. Her children have fond memories of camping trips across America, and in later life, she also traveled to Europe, China, and Australia, among others. One trip that she spoke of often was a pilgrimage to the holy sites of Jerusalem.
A longtime sports fan, she rarely missed a game, tuning in by radio to listen to her beloved Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers. Her cookie jar was always full, and no holiday get-together was complete without her famous poppyseed and walnut breads.
Barbara Motil will be warmly remembered by all who knew her for her kindness, generosity of spirit and sense that she always had their backs. She was the glue who kept the family together and will be greatly missed.
She was married to Frank Motil for thirty-seven years until his death in 1991. She was the loving mother of daughters Brenda O'Reilly, Deborah Proctor, Rebecca Motil and Barbara Fragomeli, as well as two sons, Brian Motil and Christopher Motil. She was grandmother to ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Laura and son Kenny.
Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106 or www.cancer.org.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 7, 2020 at 11am at Saint Raphael Church 525 Dover Center Rd., Bay Village. Burial will be at the All Soul's Cemetery, Chardon.
