ARNSTEIN, BARBARA JANE
12/17/1927 - 12/13/2017
Barbara was a devoted wife and mother. She was born on 12/17/1927 in Providence, Rhode Island to Irwin and Rose Forbstein. She was raised in Providence and graduated from Brown University with a BA in Philosophy. She was proud of her academic achievements, graduating magna cum laude, as well as her membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. In 1949, Barbara married Charles Arnstein and moved to Dallas shortly thereafter. Barbara worked for Neiman-Marcus at the original downtown store. She resigned from Neiman's choosing to be a full time wife and mother when their first child was born. She devoted herself to raising her three boys. She was an accomplished pianist and volunteered at the Jewish Community Center playing for the senior choir. She also volunteered at the Temple Emanu-El Judaica Gift Shop. Barbara and Charles were world travelers having visited Israel, Europe, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Scandinavia, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. She took up golf at middle age so she could play and spend more time with Charles, an avid golfer who always took his golf clubs wherever they went. She distinguished herself making a "hole in one" at the Columbian Country Club. She was also an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed making her own fashionable clothes from Vogue patterns. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Charles. She is survived by her sister Nancy Woods, her son Richard and wife Elizabeth, and sons Robert, and Irwin. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association or Temple Emanu-El. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am Friday, December 15, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rabbi Kimberly Herzog Cohen will officiate.
