Barbara Jean Smith Rogers passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 after a continuing decline in health. She was 88. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. John Brigmond officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to service time at Macon Memorial Park and a reception will follow the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Heartland Hospice, Arthritis Foundation, and Animal Rescue.

Barbara was born in Homestead, FL to Arthur Daniel Smith and Mabel Evora Davis Smith who predeceased her. She was their only child. Her husband, Ralph Dominy Rogers, also predeceased Barbara.

She and her husband moved to Macon after he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. She was a long-time member of Lynmore United Methodist Church. She was actively involved with her teachers' sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota.

Barbara earned a BA from Stetson University, studying mathematics and music. She was a computer programmer for the Defense Department; taught math and science for Dade County Board of Education, FL; and in Macon, GA, McEvoy High, Tattnall Square Academy, and Central High School.

Surviving are her children: Son, Richard Daniel Rogers of Macon, GA; Son, Ralph Mark Rogers, of Peachtree City, GA; and Daughter, Barbara Leona Rogers Burris, of Williamsburg, VA. Barbara's infant daughter, Janice Elaine Rogers, predeceased her. Her grandchildren are Joshua Burris, Brittany Bartley, Ashley Ornoff, Graceann Saye, Alexander Rogers, Zan Holmes and Paige Edwards. She has nine great-grandchildren.
