Barbara Kay Patterson was born October 3, 1939 and passed away December 27, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Barbara was born in Chicago, Illinois but spent most of her childhood in St. Paul, Minnesota. She loved the outdoors and fishing on the lake.
Her family moved to Houston, Texas and she graduated from Lamar High School. Barbara was voted "Miss Braeburn Valley" when she was 15 years old. She attended the University of Texas and was a member Chi Omega sorority. She was the manager of a large gift shop at a hospital for many years and retired at age 70. Barbara enjoyed this job and was passionate about helping families and patients that came to the shop. Her friends described as "vibrant" and "full of life." After retiring, she enjoyed gardening, making meals for those that were sick or in the hospital, and taking care of her rescue dogs. Barbara was an energetic, strong, independent woman. She loved and cherished time with her family. During her illness, she fought hard and was extremely brave. Her love, strength, laughter, and compassion for others will always be remembered.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents Russell and Phyllis Ekblad. Her surviving family members include her children - Diana Peters, Martha Aucoin, and Robert Patterson. Her grandchildren - Cassidy Aucoin, Matthew Aucoin, Logan Patterson, and Julia Patterson. Also, her brother, Russell E. Ekblad. Her nephews and nieces - Russ Ekblad Jr. and his children Max and Tess, Michael Ekblad, Eric Ekblad and his children Ellery and Morgan, her niece Ann Ekblad, her nephew Andrew Ekblad, and his children Callum and Ada.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church Friday, January12 ,at 10:30 AM. The address is 11330 Louetta Rd, Houston, Texas 77070. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of the following organizations: Brain Injury Association of America, Alzheimer's Association, or a "No Kill" animal shelter of your choice.
