Barry Morton Hertz was born on November 24, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama, the younger son of the late Sadie and Bernard Hertz, and the brother of the late Marvin Hertz. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Schwartz Hertz, and his sons Scott and Brian (Jennifer Pickett) Hertz. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.

He is a graduate of Ramsay High School, Vanderbilt University and University of Akron. He was a proud brother of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity Tau chapter at Vanderbilt. Barry devoted his professional life to public service at the Texas Workforce Commission, and the Houston Independent School District from where he retired.

Barry was an active member of the Houston Jewish community, and often noted that he and Susan first met at the Jewish Community Center. He recently became an adult bar mitzvah at Temple Sinai where he and Susan are longtime members of the community.

Donations in his memory may be sent to the URJ Greene Family Camp, the Robert D. Schwartz Campership Fund at Temple Sinai, and the Alpha Epsilon Pi Foundation.
