Benigno "Grandpa Ben" Godina, 81, Colorado City, passed away in the Covenant Medical Center of Lubbock on Sunday, January 14, 2018 with his family by his side.
He was born in Colorado City to the late Tomas and Tecla Nunez Godina on March 26, 1936.
Grandpa Ben was a very loving man who was quiet by nature. Being a man of few words, when he did speak you listened. He was a life-long resident of Colorado City. He worked 2 jobs throughout his life, most people knew him from his over 25 years working at Colorado Steam Laundry, until he switched jobs where he worked almost 20 years working as a maintenance man for TxDOT until he retired. He was a man that believed in putting his God and his family above all else, his wife Minnie of over 59 years was the love of his life. Ben loved working with his hands, building almost everything after reading the directions to make sure that they were built right because he was a perfectionist. If you needed cabinets made he was the man for the job. He also loved his sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan, making sure not to miss a game.
Ben is survived by his wife Minnie Godina of Colorado City, his sons David Godina and wife Emma of Colorado City and Robert Godina and wife Jennifer of Midlothian and by his daughter Elizabeth Godina of Colorado City. He is also survived by his sister Delfina Mendoza of New Braunfels and by his grandchildren Bianca Godina and Briana Godina, his step-grandchildren Dalton Davis and Justin Davis, and by three nieces Lydia Perez and family, Linda DeLoera and family, and Lisa Miller and family. He is also survived by a nephew Elias Mendoza as well as by several other nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ben will be held at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Colorado City on Friday, January 19th at 2pm with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating. 2 visitations for Ben will be held on Wednesday, January 17th and Thursday, January 18th from 6-8 pm at Kiker Seale Funeral Home with a rosary being held both nights at 7 pm.
