Bert Haisma, age 84, of Arcadia, IN passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Wellbrooke of Westfield at Westfield, Indiana.

He was born February 7, 1933 at Oudehaske, Netherlands to Jacob and Wietske (deJong) Haisma.

After his high school years he proudly served his country in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. Bert then became employed by the Oak Lawn School District at Oak Lawn, Illinois where he was maintenance supervisor for 31 years.

Leisure time would find Bert gardening and woodworking. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He married Maria (deDries) Haisma on April 12, 1960. She preceded him in death September 21, 2015. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and fourteen siblings.

Surviving him is a daughter: Tina Maria (Greg) Marshall of Arcadia, IN, sons: Bert Jack Haisma of Martinsville, IN and William John (Char) Haisma of St. Anne, IL, a sister: Clara Vandeveer of Ontario, Canada, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church at Noblesville, IN where services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Douglas Gast will officiate with burial to follow at Cicero Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of the services. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel where you may send condolences at www.hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
