Bessie Broussard, 102, of Huttig, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House. She was born September 5, 1914, to Hugh Emry and Florence Joplin Cain in Manchester, TX.

She retired from the United States Postal Service, where she worked as a clerk, after 24 years of service. Bessie was a member of Jack Mayfield United Methodist Church. She won several blue ribbons at the Union County Fair for her hot mats. She enjoyed fishing. She loved to travel and telling stories about her trips with her friend Dollie to New York City and Canada.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her first husband, Will Ely; her second husband, K.G. Broussard; and four brothers, Thomas, Hugh, Billy, and Merton Cain; two sisters, Merle Arrant, Una Bell Thompson.

Survivors include her two daughters, Janace McCollum of El Dorado; Sandra Mathews of St. Robert, MO; two sons, Corkey Ely of Huttig, Larry Broussard (Judy) of Hampton; sister, Betty Jordan (Charles) of Germantown, TN, sister-in-law, Dottie Cain; five grandchildren, Roberta Mason, Melissa McCollum, Joe Mathews, Hapsy Broussard, Cory Broussard; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Jack Mayfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Ballard and Rev. Cheryl Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Harper Springs Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
