Betty Elaine Forte, 89, of Napa, died Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Greenhills Care Home in American Canyon after a more than twenty year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Betty was born April 6, 1926 in Napa, the daughter of the late Irwin and Norma Rumble. She attended Napa High School and as a young lady worked as a seamstress for the Rough Rider plant here. Attending a dance at the Dream Bowl, Betty met George William Forte, then serving in the U.S. Navy, and the couple married in 1945. After her daughter Judy entered Junior High School, Betty returned to work for a time at the Sawyer Tannery where she helped to craft their signature sheepskin coats. In later life Betty and George enjoyed touring the states with their travel trailer in tow. The two loved camping and especially liked visiting areas of interest in California. When George passed away in 1992, the couple had been married 46 years. A truly sweet and caring woman, she was a devoted wife and mother. Betty is survived by her daughter Judy Crow, her husband Don, and their children: Clint Crow, his wife Jenni, and their sons Liam and Lincoln; and Valerie Crow. She is also survived by her sister Grace Stevens and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Barbara Hellman, Bertha Moore, Betty June Humphrey, and Iris Strickland. The family wishes to express appreciation to Adult Day Services of Napa and to Kam Gantan and the staff of Greenhills Care Home for the love and devotion shown to Betty. Private family committal will be Thursday at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa. Memorials may be made to Napa Adult Day Services, 414 S. Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94559.
