Betty Maurras Brust, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on July 16, 2017, in Houston. She was born on Nov. 29, 1926, in New Orleans to Mabel Comeaux Maurras and Henry Louis Maurras. Betty's father influenced her life-long love of theatre and music, and she honed many talents in cooking and sewing learned from her mom.

At the outbreak of WWII, Betty trained to serve as part of the Civil Air Patrol in New Orleans and was able to identify German, Italian and Japanese aircraft by profile or silhouette.

Betty met the love of her life in New Orleans, a young naval officer, Herbert Philip Brust. They married Dec. 1, 1951, in New Orleans.

They lived in Florida and New York before making a big move to Houston, Texas, in 1960. They bought a home in the new and growing community of Spring Branch. They raised three children and an assortment of family pets.

Betty was an active volunteer, involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA and other school activities in support of her children. Over the years she held leadership positions in the Gulf Coast German Short Haired Pointer Association, Houston Texas A&M Mothers Club and the Garden Club of the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. She was a gifted painter who enjoyed creating floral still life pictures and landscapes in oil and watercolor.

In the children's early years, Betty spent hours reading to them each day, setting the foundation for their education. Each summer she devoted time virtually every day to take them to the area pool for swimming. She drove countless miles to and from their sports team practices and other activities. She and Herb always provided unconditional support.

Among Betty's happiest times were those spent with her three grandchildren, all of whom gave loving remarks at their Mammaw's 90th birthday party last fall.

Betty was preceded in death by husband Herb who died in 1997. Betty is survived by three children -- Herbert Philip "Phil" Brust, Jr., of Houston; David Maurras Brust and wife Ann Brust of Houston; and Jane Grace Brust and husband Chris Glaeser of Los Angeles. Betty's grandchildren are Devin Michael Brust and wife Hilarie Brust of Houston; Curtis Wayne Brust and Christina Pelicos of Houston; and Jennifer Nicole Brust Glaeser of San Diego. Curtis and Christina are expecting Betty and Herb's first great-grandchild in August.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 12535 Perthshire Rd., Houston, TX 77024. Interment will take place at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079
