Betty Jo Adkins DeRush (Bobo, Beppie, Franny) (83) a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend passed away after a long struggle with cancer on October 9th, 2017 in Antioch, CA. She was born on November 8, 1933 in Lakeland, LA. She is survived by her five children: Karla (Paula) Swarthout, Delaware; James Jay Garland, California; Janet Kay Stryhas, Idaho; John Wesley Garland, California, Rebecca Jo Garland, California. Three grandchildren: Keith (Elissa) Bowman; Lindsay (Mike) Samsky; Brett Stryhas. Four great-grandchildren: Blake, Luke, Clark Bowman and Chloe Delphous. Survived by brothers: Jack (Patricia) Adkins and Doug (Nita) Adkins. Survived by numerous neices and nephews. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Wilma Long Devall; mother, Essie "Honey" Devall Langley, sisters, Dorothy Olinde Royer, June Adkins (Harold) Orgeron, sister-in-law, Lynn Adkins and half-bothers and sisters, Clyde, Elmer, Lillian, Tom, JB, Bill, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Betty celebrated another birthday in her life on December 8th with AA where she received her 41 yr chip for sobriety. She prided herself with her selfless acts of speaking, mentoring, and being a sponsor to many. She touched so many lives in AA with her love, devotion and testimony for recovery. She loved attending the conventions and going to several different meetings each week. Betty lived each day for her AA friends. She loved making her beaded jewelry and ornaments and took pleasure in giving to others.
Services will be held in Brentwood, California with final burial at "home" in Baton Rouge, LA. Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 14 from 6-10 pm at Brentwood Funeral Home in Brentwood, CA for her many friends, family and loved ones. She will then be flown "home" for viewing and a graveside service at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Viewing on Friday Saturday Oct 20th from 6-8 PM and Saturday October 21st from 8-9 AM, followed by the graveside servive at 10 am, her final resting place next to "Honey".
