Betty Lum passed away peacefully in Fresno, California on November 7 at the age of 93.
Betty was born on December 1, 1923 in Fresno to Chinese immigrants Look and Joe Shee Lum. Betty graduated Salutatorian from Edison High in 1942 then graduated with a degree biology from Fresno State. After a brief time working for her parents at the Wing Hing Chinese Grocery Store in Chinatown Fresno, she began a lifelong career as a social worker for Fresno County. Betty was a loyal friend and for decades after her retirement, she met with her fellow social workers to reminisce and socialize monthly.
Betty, cherished by her parents was devoted to not only her brother and two sisters but also to all of her nieces and nephews. They all shared the common love of well prepared food. As an accomplished seamstress, she created many outfits and dresses for her two sisters. Betty was the family's first licensed automobile driver and fondly remembered for chauffeuring family to the market, shopping and social events. She was a devoted loving daughter and sister, generous and witty friend to all. She loved playing mahjong, reading novels, watching daytime soap operas and socializing with her many friends. She was passionate about kindness and social responsibility.

Betty is survived by sister Mona Low.

Betty will be remembered at a luncheon at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 16, 217 at New City Restaurant, 14884 E. Shaw St.
