Mr. William Oakes Johnson, age 83 of Hampton, Georgia, formerly of Woodstock, Connecticut and after retirement, Port Charlotte, Florida passed away April 16, 2012. Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Clarence and Alma Anderson Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 57 years, Mary June Salyers Johnson and by children, Larry, Marilyn and Charles and his wife Cheryl and their children, Matthew and Timothy. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and retired after 29 years with Linemaster Switch of Woodstock. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Woodstock, First Alliance Church while living in Port Charlotte, and Eastside Baptist Church in McDonough, GA. He had been very active in church, having been a Sunday school teacher and youth leader. He was an avid sports fan and active in youth sports. Survivors include his children, Mary (Ed) Baranski of Woodstock, Connecticut, Bill (Kathy) Johnson of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Ted (Patty) Johnson of Hampton, Georgia, Joel (Sandy) Johnson of Dayton, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie (Don) Burns of Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin. A family gathering and celebration of life was held in Georgia. Contributions are asked to be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Bill.
