William Otis Ganus, Jr., 72, passed away on Sunday March 5, 2017 in Abilene. Bill was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on September 4, 1944 to the late William Otis and Lois Calhoun Ganus, Sr. He graduated high school in 1963 and joined the military serving his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. After his service in the military he was employed by Thyssen-Krupp Elevators as an elevator mechanic for 30 years before becoming an elevator inspector for Statewide Elevator Inspections.
Bill enjoyed his morning coffee club, tinkering with classic cars with friends, and watching anything with car racing or auto repair and restoration. He was a great caretaker to and loved many animals through the years. Bill also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Norma Haggard Ganus of the home; two daughters, Laurie Drought and husband, Thomas Drought, Jr. of Lubbock, TX, and Melia Ganus of Tallahassee, FL; five grandchildren, Stephanie Trevino of Abilene; Kimberly and Tommy Trevino, Jr. of Lubbock, TX, and Taylor and Sam Ganus of Tallahassee, FL; two great-grandchildren; and many friends.
