William Fredrick VanWey, the son of Berilda (Mooney) and Robert VanWey, was born August 24, 1934 at Ionia, Kansas. He departed this life on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 23 days. Bill received his formal education attending the Ionia schools. For a short time he worked construction on a highway crew, then he embarked upon his life's work as a truck driver. He was united in marriage with Delores Lorraine Krein on May 23, 1953. This union was blessed with five children, Dennis, Karen, Kenneth, Sharon and Jay Dee. They lived in Smith Center, Norton and Osborne, Kansas until 1968, when they moved to Red Cloud to make their home. Bill continued to pursue his passion driving a truck for Wayne Sibert, Jensby Trucking and later with Gottsch Feed Yard. In 1972, Bill was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which continued to advance through the years. He was involved in a number of community activities including volunteering his time as a Boy Scout Leader and working as an EMT on the ambulance crew. Bill was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. In the 1970's he formed the local Cushman's Forever motorcycle club. Bill's greatest enthusiasm in life was for his family. The grandkids always knew where to find his gum and he was happiest when they were together at family gatherings. In their leisure time Bill and Delores enjoyed playing bingo and visiting with friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Delores, on July 18, 2006; great granddaughter, Stacy Conway; son-in-law Dave Powell and a brother, Robert "Bob" VanWey Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Dennis and wife Lois; Kenneth and wife Deb and Jay Dee and wife Veronica all of Red Cloud; Karen Powell of Smith Center, Kansas; Sharon Kirchhoff and husband Raegan of Cedar, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; half-sisters, Pat Jorgenson and husband Ivan of Red Cloud; Carol Madron and husband Merly; Bobbi Halenski and husband Herb, and Olive Graham and husband Gale all of McPherson, Kansas; half-brothers, Richard VanWey and wife Deb of Willard, Missouri and Donald VanWey and wife Sandy of Plainville, Kansas.
