Billie James Wine, 92, of Waynesboro, was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2017. Billie was born in Grottoes on October 10, 1925, a son of the late Edward Lee and Mary Emma (Summers) Wine.
Billie was an alumni of Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind and retired from Business Opportunities for the Blind. Prior to his illness, he was an active member of the Lions Club and attended West Waynesboro Church of Christ. Billie was very active throughout his lifetime in caring for others and did not let his handicap slow him down!
In addition to his parents, Billie was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Inez E. (Staton) Wine; sister, Ellen W. Nicely of Lyndhurst; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at West Waynesboro Church of Christ, 2212 Cortland St, Waynesboro, with Phil Forehand officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be John Ray Nicely, Robert Lee Nicely, Wallace Clinton Nicely, E.J. Hewitt, L.G. Ferrier, and Paul Gouchenour.
Honorary pallbearers will be the aides and nurses from Avante at Waynesboro Nursing Home, Pam Carney, Mike and Penny Whitehurst, and friends of West Waynesboro Church.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Youth Group at the church.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to all of his kind and compassionate caregivers.
