Billy Knowles Jared died peacefully at Brookdale Assisted Living on August 5, 2017 in Goodlettsville, Tennessee at the age of 90. He was born on May 26, 1927, son of the late Joseph Summerfield and Lora Florence Knowles Jared. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eva Faye Mackey Jared, his step-mother, Emma Lee Brown Jared, his brother Herbert Jared and his sisters Joan Holman and Jean Blaylock.

He is survived by his five children, Jerry (Leslie), Charlottesville, VA, Bob (Margi), Gladeville, TN, Barbara Lynch (Steve), Beebe, AR, Ann Queen (David), Goodlettsville, TN, and Jan Carter (David), Jefferson City, MO. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Asplund, Michigan. He has 12 grandchildren, John Jared, Shelley Clopton, Emily Rogers, Joseph Jared, Becca Hauck. Sarah Nygaard, Mary Swab, Jennifer Rivers, Jared Queen, Amy Lage, Andrew Green, and Michael Green and 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He grew up in Nashville, TN and served in the US Navy in World War II. He graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1950 and earned a Master's Degree from George Peabody College. He taught elementary school in the Metro Nashville Public School system for 33 years. He was a lifetime member of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Nashville where he served as a Sunday School teacher and a board member. He loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, and served as an Assistant Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America. He believed in giving back to others and donated over 16 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.

A celebration of life will be conducted 1:00 Wednesday at Grace Church of The Nazarene 2620 Pennington Bend Rd with Pastor Jonathan Trees officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will gather to remember Mr. Jared at a visitation today from 5:00 until 8:00 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home 1150 South Dickerson Road Goodlettsville, Tennessee 37072 and from 12:00 until the 1:00 service at Grace Church of The Nazarene.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billy K and Eva F Jared Scholarship Endowment c/o Trevecca Nazarene College.
