Life Reflections
Lige Williams, affectionately known as "Billy", was born in Florence South Carolina on April 6, 1933 to the late Elijah and Delilah Williams. Billy accepted Christ at an early age and continued his religious walk with God at the New Creation Church of San Diego, California. Billy graduated from Wilson High School of Florence South Carolina, after which he joined the Navy where he served the country honorably. While Billy was stationed in San Diego, California, he met the love of his life, Norvell and this union was blessed with four children. Education was very important to Billy and he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree.
Billy was a very hard worker and after receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy for surviving airplane combat, he went to work at Convair of San Diego for many years. In 1964 he began working at the North Island Naval Air Rework Facility as an aircraft engineer where he retired in 1987. Billy maintained a side job as a masonry engineer building barbeque pits, brick walls, patios, driveways, remodeling homes and other contracting work. Billy was very good at his skills and there was no job he would not challenge and do very well, in fact he built the family room at his homes.
For relaxation, Billy traveled with his motor home club, "The Free Wheelers" to various sites around the state and enjoyed the company of the club members and many friends. Another talent of Billy's was his famous barbeque, broccoli salad, smoked turkey, collard greens, fried turkey and other soul foods. He was an avid music fan and listener of jazz, and the blues. He had a vast collection of jazz artists and blues greats. Billy loved people and life but as his health began to fail, he spent many days relaxing in his Family Room with a roaring fire in the fireplace and jazz music playing.
