Brenda C. Black
1946 – 2009

Brenda, age 62, passed away at her home in Erda, Utah on Tuesday, January 15 due to complications of ALS.

Brenda was born in Snowflake, Arizona to Timothy A. Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Carragher. She attended BYU and obtained a Bachelor degree in Early Elementary Education. Brenda married Jed F. Black on April 9, 1970 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Together they raised eight children in the Salt Lake Valley.

Brenda was an active and devoted member of the LDS Church. She served in many callings and leadership positions. Brenda loved reading, gardening and sewing. After raising her children, she taught school for ten years in the Granite School District and was beloved by her students and fellow teachers. Brenda was a tireless advocate for education and reading programs in Utah. She also loved camping, vacationing and playing pranks on her children.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. She is survived by one brother Michael A. Carragher and two sisters Inez Turrietta and Coneen Biggs, her husband Jed F. Black, Rebecca and (Matthew) Gallacher, Patricia and (Goody IV) Tyler, Sarah Black, Deborah Black, Joshua and (Ashley) Black, Melissa Black, Micah and (Katelyn) Black, Andrea Black, four grandsons and one granddaughter.

The family would like to thank the incredible doctors and staff at the University of Utah Neurology Clinic and the Tooele CNS Hospice care nurses and aids for all of their love and exceptional care of our mother.

Funeral Services under the direction of Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Erda Ward, 203 East Erda Way, Erda, Utah. Friends may call prior to services at the ward from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery, 5490 Vine Street. Online guestbook available at www.russonmortuary.com
