Brenda C. Nickerson, 76, of Meggett, South Carolina, wife of John O. Nickerson entered into eternal rest Monday, June 24, 2019. Her Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 28, 2019 in The Episcopal Church on Edisto meeting in the Historic Sanctuary of The New First Missionary Baptist Church, 1644 SC-174, Edisto Island, SC 29438 at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.

Brenda was born January 27, 1943 in Newberry, South Carolina, daughter of the late Earl W. Crapps and Ruth Robinson Crapps. She enjoyed a wonderful rural childhood in Newberry, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina where she received a full scholarship to the College of Nursing that was awarded to her by Senator Ernest F. Hollings. She also received her masters degree in nursing from USC and was the recipient of a scholarship through DHEC.

Her nursing career included working for DHEC, and she retired from the Hollings Cancer Institute of MUSC. Public health was Brenda's passion and she had a love for helping underserved people. She implemented The Best Chance Network Program for uninsured and underinsured cancer patients. She started The Cancer Tumor Registry for the State of South Carolina and wrote the grant for The Hollings Cancer Institute Mammogram/Winnebago Program, still in use today. Upon her retirement she volunteered at Hospice of Charleston. Her interests were varied and she loved the outdoors, gardening, back packing and international traveling.

She is survived by her husband, John O. Nickerson of Meggett, SC; son, Duane E. Price (Lisa) of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Caroline Price Sandlin (Greg) of Lone Star, SC, and Bonnie Price of Bishopville, SC; step-son, Joshua W. Nickerson of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Jamie Hayes, Zachary Price, Dalton Price, and Tyler Joshua Gray; two sisters, Sharon Batson of Wilmington, NC, Mary Ann Chorlton of Newberry, SC, and her cat Mr. Paris. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Don Crapps.

The family wishes to extend a special appreciation to Father Fred Thompson and Anna Alessandro.
