Charles "Bruce" Haning, devoted husband, loving father, caring papaw, and friend, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Bruce's strong faith, along with countless prayers, love and care of family and friends provided unbelievable support throughout the past few months.
Bruce Haning was born on March 2, 1933 to Charles Haning (deceased) and Myrtle (Saxton) Haning (deceased). Growing up in Lancaster as a proud and well respected member of the community, Bruce graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951. He then went on to graduate from Muskingum University in 1955. On July 28, 1955 he married the love of his life and dedicated wife of 62 years, Sandra "Sandi" (Aken) Haning. Bruce went into business with his father and established one of the most well respected and professional companies in the area. Haning's Heating and Cooling. The pride shown for his business was a result of his appreciation to serve the people and community he held so dear.
Bruce lived his life to its fullest. As a result of his deep devotion for faith, family and community, Bruce was a long standing member of the Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder and also member of the local Sertoma Club. As a proud Mason, Bruce represented all Lancaster Masonic Bodies, serving as Chaplain for Lancaster Lodge for many years and Lancaster Council #3 R.&S.M. since 1968.
The passion he held and demonstrated on a daily basis for his family is what is remembered most. From annual vacations to Hilton Head, to cookouts occurring almost daily, Bruce loved to be surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. For more than 50 years, he attended more basketball, soccer, volley ball games and horseback shows than anyone else in Fairfield County. Special memories of Bruce teaching every member of the family how to play tennis will be held dear for years to come.
Bruce is survived by his beloved wife of 62 blessed years, Sandi (Aken) Haning, of Lancaster, brother Robert Haning of Westerville; children, Tim Haning, of Coshocton, Tammy (Charles) Tolley, Tom (Mindy) Haning, Trisha Haning - Kyer, Tracy (Rich) Bowlen all of Lancaster; grandchildren, Marshall, Emily, Kyle, Jacob, Mary-Catherine, Jessie, Tommy, Allie, Tori and Coredell; great grandchildren, Alexandria, Evelyn, Jude and Eli.
He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Tom Kyer.
The family is deeply grateful for the continuous outpouring of love, prayers, and support through so many heart-felt forms from their entire community of friends and loved ones. Special thanks to Fairfield Medical Hospital 4th floor staff and The Pickering House for the kindness and genuine care and concern during this difficult time.
As our family approaches the next coming days, months and years, we invite you to join us in remembrance of a life well lived, a husband deeply loved, a father greatly missed, a papaw and great papaw never to be forgotten and friend who cared about each of us with his whole heart.
A service will take place on Wednesday, July 26 at 11AM at the HALTEMAN-FETT AND DYER FUNERAL HOME, officiated by Dr. Richard Riedel. Family and friends may visit prior to the service on Tuesday, July 25 from 4PM until 7PM and on Wednesday, July 26 from 10AM until 11AM at the funeral home. The Lancaster Masonic Lodge will be conducting services on Tuesday at 7PM. In lieu of flowers donations to Pickering House and Rushcreek Presbyterian Church of West Rushville are greatly appreciated.
