Byron Emmitt Teer, Sr. was born on March 19, 1921 in Miller County to Allen and Flossie Teer. He attended Fouke School. He married LaNelle Collins on May 22, 1953.

Survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Dennis Smith; one son, Byron E. Teer, Jr.; five grandchildren, Wayne Smith and his wife Lesley, Shane Smith and his wife Cassie, Derek Teer, Alex Teer and Lisa Teer; three great grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Mason Smith and Isaac Smith; sister-in-law, Odessa Collins; and one special niece, Shirley Sumpter.

He was retired from the Mail Terminal, Cooper Tire and farming. He served in the United States Navy from January 9, 1940 to November 13, 1947 as Chief Petty Officer. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, and a Presidential Citation for Achievements. He was in Torpedo Squadron 51 on an eight year cruise with five major invasions in the South Pacific. He was aboard the U.S.S. San Jacinto CVL-30 which was a aircraft carrier with past President George H. Bush, carrier group, who at the time was the youngest pilot in the Naval Air Force. He was a lifetime Mason, Sidney Lodge #455 and a deacon at Pisgah Baptist Church.

Service will be 4 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2016 at Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev. Neal Floyd and Rev. Jerry Teer officiating. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery with full military and masonic rites. Arrangements under the direction of East Funeral Home - Downtown. Family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pisgah Baptist Church prior to the service.

Family will be at the home of Dennis and Deborah Smith at 13113 Hwy 71, Fouke, AR.
