Carl Frederick Ellis, age 72, passed away unexpectedly at Tomball Regional Hospital on Thursday, August 10, 2017, after a brief illness. He was a successful businessman and long time resident of the North Harris and Montgomery County areas. He was a generous and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was active in his community and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. Carl enjoyed fishing and working with his horses and goats on the ranch.

Carl was born on April 20, 1945, in Owensboro, Kentucky, the son of Helen Annette Leonard. He grew up in Kentucky with his brothers, Jerry Wedding and the late David Wedding. Carl was a decorated paratrooper in the US Army from 1963 to1967. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 8th Cavalry, 1st Battalion with tours in Viet Nam and Germany. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Carl spent some time in Florida then moved to Texas where he met and married Sibyl Jouette Woodard on September 9, 1989.

Carl is survived by his wife, Sibyl Jouette Woodard Ellis, one brother and his wife, Jerry and Judy Wedding, four children and their spouses: Andrew and Kerstin Ellis of Germany, John and Amy Crenshaw of Katy, Margaret Kelley and the late Patrick Kelley of Spring, and Sean and Allison O'Toole of Louisiana, stepson: Bill Pierce and wife Julie, and several grandchildren: Catey Harriman, Kristin Byars, Rebecca Kelley, Nathan Kelley, Corey Ellis, Jordan Crenshaw, and Mason O'Toole.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 16th at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with interment immediately following at the Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
