Mr. Carl H. Brumfield, aged 91 of Kokomo, MS died Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the VA Retirement Home in Collins, MS. He was born June 11, 1926 in Walthall County to Jessie and Pearlie Magee Brumfield and graduated from Marion-Walthall School in the Darbun community. After serving in the United States Navy, he was a dairy farmer for over fifty years. As an active member of Magee's Creek Baptist Church, Mr. Brumfield served in various roles including deacon. Also, he was very proud serving others as a Mason and a Shriner.
As an avid Rook player, Carl was a faithful member of the Darbun Rook Club for over thirty years. Participating in and attending sporting events was one of his greatest joys. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren could depend on his attendance and compassionate support at their sporting events. He was their biggest fan.
Above everything else, he loved his family. Carl and his wife Carolyn of 45 years were the family's foundation. Their true love and commitment to each other and to others made an example for all to follow. During his declining years, his loving wife devoted herself tirelessly and cared for him unwaveringly. He took his role as patriarch to heart. He enjoyed spending time at family gatherings, playing games, celebrating holidays, and traveling to see loved ones. Carl loved his family and friends dearly and will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Brumfield was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris Brumfield; his parents; sisters, Sarah Daughtry, and Margaret Buckley; and a brother, Carey Brumfield. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brumfield of Kokomo; four daughters, Amarylis(Skip)Attix of Hattiesburg, MS, Debbie(John)Rinkle of Columbia, MS, Dawn(Doug)Brister of Jayess, MS, and Belinda(Michael)Gonzalez of Southaven, MS; four sons, Carl Darryl Brumfield of Sandy Hook, MS, Jeff Harvey of Tylertown, MS, Joe(Kathy)Harvey of Columbia, and Steve(Patrice)Harvey of Denver, Co; 17 grandchildren, Todd(Denea)Pounds, Trey(Julie)Pounds, Jolie Thrasher, Dawn Martin, Lara(Tommy)Anderson, Charity(Chris)Nace, Jessica(David)Middleton, Brittaney Harvey, Leah Harvey, Kristie(Jeremy)Crump, Thomas Joe "T.J." Harvey, Jordan(Chance)McNabb, Amelia Harvey, Millie(Daniel)Johnson, Demi(Tyler)Zimmerman, Channing Gonzalez, and Chase Gonzalez; 27 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 5:00pm until 9:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 323 Second St. in Columbia. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 12:00pm at Magee's Creek Baptist Church where friends may visit with family from 11:00am until service time. Reverend Glenn Nace will officiate at the service and will be assisted by Dr. Robin Brumfield, and Reverend Kenneth Roberts. Pallbearers will be Todd Pounds, Trey Pounds, T.J. Harvey, Channing Gonzalez, Chase Gonzalez, and Chris Nace and honorary pallbearers are the members of the Darbun Rook Club. Interment will be at Darbun Cemetery.
