Carl Clinton Lowry of Pontotoc, was born in Trebloc, MS on December 21, 1932, and went to be with his Lord on January 3, 2018, at NMMC Hospice. He was the son of the late Floyd and Omeria Colbert Lowry. He was a 1951 honor graduate of Aberdeen High School. He received his BA Degree in education and Master's Degree in school administration from the University of Mississippi. He married the love of his life, Shirley Thompson Lowry, in 1959.

After serving in Germany for two years in the U.S. Army, Carl was a teacher, coach and principal at Pontotoc High School from 1958 until 1965, he moved to Houston where he was principal at Houston High School for four years and then served as Assistant Superintendent until 1977 when he returned to Pontotoc as High School Principal. As an educator, Carl touched countless lives and nothing pleased him more than to see his former students succeed in life. After retiring, he could usually remember students' names that he would meet and tell them the year they graduated and name several others who were in that class. As an educator, he was known for being a strong, yet compassionate, disciplinarian. Following his retirement in 1985, he worked at Colbert Auto World in Houston for 13 years.

He was a member of MS Association of Educators, MS Association of School Administrators and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He was chosen Outstanding Young Educator and Outstanding School Administrator.

He was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church, Pontotoc where through the years he served as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Training Union Director and teacher, Sunday School secretary and served on several committees. Carl's favorite Bible verse was "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works." Matthew 5:16.

Carl was an avid sports fan, and especially followed the Ole Miss Rebels and Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, working crossword puzzles and playing dominoes. Carl was a close family man. He had many, many friends, and the prayers, cards and visits from friends in various communities, counties, and states meant so much to him during his illness.

A celebration of Carl's life will be at First Baptist Church, Pontotoc on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM, with Dr. Ken Hester officiating. Visitation will be in the Fellowship Hall of FBC on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 5 PM to 8 PM. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park in Verona, MS.
