We are celebrating the life of Carlton "Corky" Hayes Bolton of Denver, NC, who was born on February 8, 1930 to Lula Maude Williams and James Bronson Bolton, in Fayetteville, NC. At age 12, his family moved to Wrightsville Beach, NC where he gained a love for the beach, boats and fishing. He served for five years as a lifeguard (one of those years as Head Lifeguard) and also was a member of the Wrightsville Beach Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Bolton graduated from New Hanover High School, where he was recognized as a valuable football player and given the nickname "Corky" by Coach Brogdan. A football team trip to Mexico landed Corky's picture in a local paper as he made a "touchdown catch". He later attended UNCW, High Point College and St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, NC.

Carlton began his career at Bellsouth in Wilmington in 1950 as a Lineman and progressed upward in the management ranks in Laurinburg, NC, Lumberton, NC, Asheville, NC and Charlotte, NC where he retired as the Manager of Installation & Repair at age 55 to spend time perfecting his golf game, as he also had a love for golf. Corky was civic minded throughout his early adult life in the Toastmasters Club in Laurinburg, NC and as Cubmaster in Lumberton, NC. He was a faithful member of his church, serving in different capacities within.
Carlton lived a long, active and happy life and was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Bolton met Anne Todd Bolton in Wilmington, NC and they married in 1952, they have been married for 65 years. They were blessed with three children: Pamela Bolton of Huntersville, NC; Susan Mundell and husband Mark Mundell of Yadkinville, NC, Carlton Hayes Bolton, Jr. and wife Ronda Bolton of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; ten grandchildren: Natalie Wilkerson of Lumberton, NC, Sara Mullery-Andraza and husband Chris Andraza of Concord, NC, Jonathan Barnes of Cornelius, NC, Matthew Barnes of Cornelius, NC, Jon Whitesides of Yadkinville, NC, Jessie Wilson and husband T.J. Wilson of Ft. Hood, TX, Marshall Whitesides and wife Bridget Whitesides of Charlotte, NC, Brandy Moseley and husband Levi Moseley of Newton, NC , Stephen Bolton of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Carly Bolton of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; 13 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Jake.


The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, November13, 2017 at Coble Ward-Smith with Pastor Phillip Blackwelder officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
