Carmen Amrica Addis passed away on November 3 in Houston, Texas. She was born in Tumaco, Colombia on August 8, 1950. Her mother died when she was only six years old and she struggled to care for herself and her younger brother, completing her education and becoming a social worker for Foster Parent's Plan. She met her husband Daniel Addis when he came to Tumaco to visit a child he was sponsoring and he immediately fell in love with her. They soon married and remained married for 41 years. Carmen continued her education in the United States, earning a BS degree in Child and Family Development. She worked for Head Start as a teacher and preschool-director and later she worked as an elementary school teacher in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, concluding her career at Christ the Redeemer School.
Words fail to capture the beautiful and loving essence of Carmen, who has spread her tender affection to many people. She had an inner spiritual joy that radiated from her. She strongly devoted herself to the Lord and the Catholic Church in many capacities, including as a deacon's wife. Her husband Deacon Daniel developed his spiritual relationship with the Lord in conjunction with Carmen's example, guidance, and presence. Both Carmen and Daniel are proud of their son, Oscar Addis and daughter Mary Ann Addis, their daughter-in-law Celestial Addis, and grandchildren, Ashton, Ethan, Sophie, and Emmett.
