Carmen was born on June 5, 1930 in a tent just outside of Mendota, Ca. She was the daughter of Manuel and Juanita Guardado. Carmen had six brothers; Augustine, Peter, Ruben, Greg, Santos, and Tony, and four sisters; Pilar, Connie, Anita and Mary.
On November 30, 1946 Carmen married the love of her life, Angel Benitez Valenzuela in a Fresno Courthouse. Two years later they were blessed with their first son, Raymond and their son William the following year.
Religion was very important to Carmen. She was a member of The Shrine of St. Therese for 40 years. She held high moral standards and values and was respected for her willingness to help in any manner she was able. Carmen was also a member, in her later years, of the Edad De Oro.
Carmen was quick to make friends and was known to talk to anyone who called for hours on end whether she knew them or not. Carmen loved to crotchet blankets for her grandkids and great grandkids, she also had a love for word searches. The one thing that Carmen loved more than anything else was to be surrounded by her sons and their families. Nothing made Grandma happier than to have her kids, grandkids and great grandkids together laughing and enjoying being together.
On June 2, 2017, Carmen passed away at her son Bills home, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her brother Santos; her sons Raymond and Bill; her grandchildren, Alvina, Ray, Carrie, Scott, Greg and Alex, and her great grandchildren, Bridget, Brook, Breana, Francine, Jesus (JJ), Daniel, Anthony, Richie and Katelynn. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Terri Valenzuela. Services were held at The Shrine of St. Therese and she was laid to rest at St. Peters Cemetery in Fresno, California.
