The Funeral Service for Caroline R. Willman, age 91 of Almont, will be held at 10:30 a.m. CDT Friday, May 22, 2009 at the United Lutheran Church in Almont, ND. Pastor Van Vechten Crane will officiate with burial in the Sims Cemetery northeast of Almont.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. MDT on Thursday afternoon, May 21, at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at 8:00 p.m. CDT on Thursday evening at the United Lutheran Church in Almont.

Special music will be provided by Colleen Reinhardt.

Serving as casketbearers are Randy Christianson, Don Rychlik, Ray Olin, Grant Johnson, Eugene Peterson, and Augie Schaaf. All friends and relatives are considered Honorary Bearers.

CAROLINE ROSE NOFFKE was born March 25, 1918 at Coloma, Michigan to William and Rose (Kling) Noffke. She grew up in Coloma on the family fruit farm. Caroline attended Coloma grade school graduating from Coloma High School in 1936. During her high school years, she played on the girl's basketball team and won the State Championship.

Caroline was a secretary for a wholesale bulb grower in Benton Harbor, Michigan and later for The Voice of Music Corporation in Benton Harbor. She met Margido 'Mark' Willman, while their families were in the cattle business. Caroline's brother, George, purchased cattle from the Willman Brothers at which time she was introduced to Mark. They were united in marriage on July 4, 1954 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Reform in St. Joseph, Michigan.

Caroline returned to North Dakota where her husband operated a ranch in a partnership with his brothers on the Heart River south of Almont. She and her husband later went into ranching themselves in Morton County along the Muddy Creek. The Willman's continued raising Hereford cattle where they constructed a new home on the Muddy Creek. Two sons, David and Charles were born to this union. The Willman's continued ranching and farming together along with their sons. Charles passed away suddenly on July 15, 1982. Her husband passed away on October 18, 2003.

Caroline continued living on the ranch until entering the Jacobson Memorial Care Center on February 1, 2007, due to health reasons.

She passed away on Saturday morning, May 16, 2009 at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin at the age of 91 years, 1 month, 21 days.

She was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Almont, Almont Ladies Aid, the Eagles and Elks Clubs, and the Almont Homemakers Club.

Surviving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Carol Willman, one grandson, Luke Willman, all of Almont, North Dakota; two step-grandsons, Darin Wilwand, Almont, North Dakota; and Nick Wilwand, Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Helen Noffke, two nieces, Sharon Schumuhl, Susan Ginter, and one nephew, Charles Hoffke, all of Coloma, Michigan; three grand nieces and one grand nephew.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2003; a son Charles in 1982, one sister Esther Newstrom, one brother George Noffke.

A memorial has been established.
