Carolyn Hunter Burrow, 86, died Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Greenfield Assisted Living in Stafford, VA, from Alzheimer's Disease. Born to the late Mattie Mae Sawyer and William Alton Hunter on January 6, 1931, she grew up in Norfolk, VA, where she graduated from Maury High School in 1949. She married a United States Marine, Robert F. Burrow, who was her husband and best friend for 62 years. Together they raised a family in Marine Corps stations from North Carolina to Haiti and back. Carolyn retired from FCTC Dam Neck after 20 years of civil service. In retirement, she and Bob travelled the world visiting family and friends. She was an avid bowler, and relished her reunions with her Maury classmates.
Carolyn leaves behind Daughter Pamela (Tim) Yandle; son William Burrow; daughter Barb (Ted) Melton; daughter Vickie (Neal) Sullivan; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family thanks the staff at Greenfield, especially Terri, Brenda #1 and #2, and Gina of Capital Caring Hospice, for their loving care, support, and compassion, who cared for Carolyn like their own.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford from 6-8:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Summit Presbyterian Church on Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, VA. Carolyn will be buried alongside her beloved husband Bob in Quantico National Cemetery
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to an Alzheimer's Association of choice.
