Beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Celia Bonilla Gardea, 84, was called to heaven on December 11, 2017. Born and raised in Tornillo, Celia graduated from Tornillo High School. She was married to Terezo "Ted" Gardea, Sr. for 60 years and raised five children. Celia was a devout Catholic and well known for her generosity, compassion, and servant leadership. She was a lifelong member of St. Rita Catholic Church and served on the parish council for several years. She was also a catechist, a volunteer at the annual church fiesta, and a member of the choir. She was a Girl Scout and PTA leader and championed community fundraisers throughout the years. She was loved immensely by her family and those who knew her. She delighted in the precious time spent with her grandchildren who lovingly called her Nana or Grandma. She instilled in them that they were unique, purposely made to serve others and fulfill God's plan for their lives. She initiated countless adventures, creating lasting memories with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Gardea, Sr., son Teddy Gardea and parents, Diego and Refugio "Cuca" Bonilla. She is survived by her daughters Corina, Connie, Irene, Loretta (Nunny), daughter-in-law Ofelia, six siblings, six grandchildren, and three (soon to be four) great-grandchildren. She will be missed, but never forgotten. The memories we cherish of her will be like her smile, forever radiant. Visitation 5-9pm Friday, December 15th, with 7pm vigil at Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 Carolina. Funeral Mass 11:30am Saturday, December 16th at Corpus Chisti Catholic Church. Internment will be held Monday, December 18th at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
