Charles B. Preston, 89, a resident of Keene, NH and former resident of Manchester, CT., passed away peacefully at Langdon Place of Keene on Thursday, November 30, 2017, following a period of declining health.

He was born November 1, 1928, in Mishawaka, IN, the son of Everett and Esther (Glenn) Preston. He grew up in the South Bend, Indiana area and attended various schools there. He went on to proudly serve our Nation as a member of the United States Army, where he served as a Staff Sergeant in Military Government in Korea and acted as an Administrative NCO in the Bureau of Commerce and Industry of the Provincial Military Government located in Pusan. After two years of service to our country he went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Accounting from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL in 1949, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He went on to obtain his certification in Accounting from New York State in 1953.

He worked for Price Waterhouse & Co. of New York City and Hartford until 1958 then he worked for United Technologies Corporation, Corporate Office in Hartford, where he retired in 1988 as Senior Vice President - Controller.

He was a member of several organizations and civic groups, including: the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Legion, Appalachian Mountain Club (Four Thousand Footers of New England), The Arthur Ransome Society, Clan MacInnes Society and Veterans of Foreign Wars. For many years he was a Scoutmaster in Rocky Hill and East Harford.
Despite all of his many accomplishments and achievements in life, three things brought him the most joy: being a loving husband, a devoted father and a fun-loving "Pops" and "Great-Grandpappy". He loved spending time with family and organizing family gatherings and special events. He also enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially hiking and taking part in Colonial Reenactments.

He is survived by his son: Richard G. Preston of Alstead, NH, grandchildren: Sara Preston, Jaime (Preston) Stopoulos, Ian Preston and Lara Paige Banks, great-grandchildren: Gordon, Evalyn, Freya Quinn, Annette and Alisdair He is also survived by his loving companion Susan Billings of Keene. He is predeceased by his wife: Evalyn McClelland Preston and his son: Robert O. Preston.

A Graveside Service will be held in the Rose Hill Memorial Park, Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2pm. Family and friends are invited to call on the family at the Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, CT on Wednesday from 10:30am to 12pm.
